Dear Hawk Elementary Families,

Welcome to the 2020 - 2021 school year at Hawk Elementary! I want to start by acknowledging that we know this school year is starting out with a lot of uncertainty and anxiety for our students and parents. We will be starting the year fully remote for at least the first nine weeks and although it is not the school year we were expecting, our hope is to ensure that your student will have a rich and engaging learning experience.

We are days away from your first teacher connection! Your child’s teacher is anxious to introduce themselves via telephone on August 27th and to begin the process of getting you the information you need to make this a great school year for your child. On Thursday you will also receive an email from classroom teachers with specific information on next steps and a sign up to meet the teacher virtually.

In the first days of school, each family will participate in a scheduled virtual meeting with the teacher where you can:

  • Meet each other ‘face to face”, since we cannot meet in person yet.

  • Share some things about your child and family that are important to you.

  • Help you understand how online learning will work for at least the first 9 weeks of school.

  • Ask questions or clarify plans around accommodations or flexibility to meet unique needs.

  • Learn how CKSD can assist your family during remote learning.

We would also like to invite all families to a Back to School Drive Through Event on Tuesday, September 8 from 2:00 pm - 6:00pm. Each student will receive consumable workbooks aligned to the curriculum as well as a student supplies kit. More event details to come. Be sure to wave at the Hawk Elementary staff as you go through the loop!

A note to our kindergarten families… Kindergarten students traditionally begin school in a “slow start” to allow time for family connection, early learning collaboration, and assessments to learn about the skills and strengths of children in their classroom. This is true for the current year too! The calendar below outlines what to expect in the first weeks of school.

As always, our staff is here to help and we thank you for partnering with us during this time.  We are excited for the start of the school year and are looking forward to getting our students back to learning!
